Here are various demo recordings of musical selections from the musical The Rat Pack. Bear in mind that the musical itself has been through a number of rewrites which have changed the structures and lyrics of these songs, either deleting sections or adding on additional material. For demonstration purposes, I think these tracks will offer a proper listening source for interested parties as to the style and overall vibe to be achieved musically by this project.
"From Here It's to the Top" offers a general theme throughout the musical, opening up the upcoming events with lots of energy and catchy melodies. "A Personal Favor" is a duet between Joseph Kennedy and Frank Sinatra in which Joe asks Sinatra to contact his mob ties to help "influence" the upcoming election. The track "Available" is sung by Judith Campbell, who has a simultaneous affair with JFK and Sam Giancanna, Frank's connection with the Chicago mob who fix the election. "Things Are Gonna Have to Change" is a solo for Sammy Davis Jr., after hearing he has to put off his wedding to a "white" Mai Britt, in order to maintain the country's favor of JFK. Peter Lawford gets a chance to vent his feelings of being used to Frank with "I Don't Want to be a Kennedy", and Dean Martin offers a kind of detached wisdom to a star-struck Joey Bishop with the track "The Cocktail of the Hour".
The track, "Everybody Wants to be Us", opens the second act with a quartet of the "Pack" addressing Sammy's contrasting brown suit and skinny tie to their tuxes, just before going onstage and doing their thing. The track "If That's What It Takes" is sung by Skinny D'Amato and Johnny Rosselli, in reaction to the newly elected Kenney's going after the mafia after the "favor" they gave. The duet "You will Never Change", is between Sinatra and a visiting Ava Gardner, who is upset at Sinatra's lack of attention for her. Upon her inevitable departure, Sinatra sings the solo "Loser of the Century", my personal favorite of the musical which occurs at the end of the second act.
Once again, bear in mind that most of these tracks have been altered, and a reading of the revised script and piano/vocal score will more accurately illustrate these changes until an updated recording has been made. Check this page for any updates of newly arranged tracks or some previously unrecorded material to be made accessible.
